what is the porch?

It’s not an architectural structure that we sit under or a weekly meeting. It is more of a philosophy on how to live life...a philosophy that is all about relationships. It is probably best described with a few stories.

Years ago, there was a group of people that shared such a great sense of purpose that they made a mark on the world around them. They were men and women on a spiritual journey who were willing to set aside their own reputations for a greater cause. They were a people of purpose who laughed together, cried together, ate together and searched for truth together.

A beggar, who was paralyzed since birth, was miraculously healed. He ran and jumped through crowds of people rejoicing. He had found a reason to praise God.

There was once a man who many people thought had been sent by God. When asked if he was their savior he said yes. When his antagonists tried to kill him for his answer he told them to investigate his claims for themselves. He had such confidence in the truth that he submitted his own actions as evidence.

All of these things happened on a porch called Solomon’s Colonnade. The porch, to us, is a stage that has been set for relationships. Not a physical stage but a philosophical one where we come to seek truth, find reason to praise and live life together.

The porch aims to be a uniquely Biblical community of college-aged believers. This is seen though genuine, committed relationships with each other and with our God. Our understanding of relationship comes from studying God’s written word and applying it to our own lives. We desire our worship to been seen in every aspect of our lives, from our daily choices to our life dreams.
